The fall Student Affairs Committee meeting at the Student Academic Conference in White Plains, N.Y. was a unique opportunity to bring together many of the student services professionals from across the college’s centers. Students, faculty and staff of the Student Affairs Committee recognize that student services is a vital part of the encouraging and supportive environment at SUNY Empire State College.
Patricia Myers, director of the Office of Collegewide Student Services states, “Empire State College student services is a partner in your successful college experience. We are here to support you in finding the information you need and the people who can best assist you. We are dedicated to our students and provide many opportunities and methods for you to connect with us. There is a center-based student services office and a collegewide student services office to make it easy for you.”
The Student Affairs Committee hopes to increase the visibility of student services at each center and promote open communication between students, faculty and staff. Patricia Ryan, director of student services for the School for Graduate Studies says, “The student services professionals across the college employ a variety of different methods to reach out to students at both a center and collegewide level.”
Student services staff are available at each center to help students resolve problems with mentors, programs or administrative offices. Student services also can provide students with information about important policies and procedures at SUNY Empire State College, including student appeals, disability accommodations, academic honesty and student conduct.
