The Voice of Autism

(This poem was written in observance of National Autism Month. April is dedicated to raising awareness about autism. Check out Wright’s article, April is Autism Awareness Month.)
Autism speaks throughout our culture and society.
The lack of voice for those affected can cause tremendous anxiety.
Speaking words and phrases is possible without frustration
Through community efforts, building and embracing.
Accepting the awareness – unwavering and firmly taking a stand;
Speaking through this poetic platform, allow our minds to expand.
Be open to facing this epidemic that affects the family of a friend;
A realistic frame of existence, we can all begin.
Each one needs a hand to lend understanding;
Autism speaks loud and clear - our attention is demanded.
