Introducing Empire State College’s First Ever Student Service Award

By Joshua Boardman, graduate intern, Academic Affairs

February 14, 2014

The Office of Collegewide Student Services is excited to announce the new Student Service Award! The Student Service Award is designed to honor students who show exceptional service to their college and/or communities.

The Service Award was created to recognize and honor the students that selflessly commit their time to improving their community and college as well as the well-being of other people. Patricia Myers, the director of Collegewide Student Services, states, “Empire State College students are often the backbone of their communities. The Service Award will recognize those students who have participated in worthy causes in addition to managing their busy lives as students, employees and family members. Creating a sustainable world requires us to take care of one another; I know many of our students exemplify that belief."

The Service Award will be presented this year at the Student Wellness Retreat taking place, April 10-12 in Albany, New York. Students can be nominated by someone within the service group, a fellow student, an alumnus or alumna, college staff or mentor, or one can apply without a nomination.

The individual must submit an application and two letters of recommendation by Mar. 3 in order to be considered for the award. Students who are selected to receive the award also will receive a travel grant to assist them so they can attend the Student Wellness Retreat.
