Are you up late writing a paper and can’t remember how to cite a web source? Struggling with your accounting homework, but can’t get in touch with your mentor? Applying for a job and need some advice on how to write the cover letter?
If you answered “Yes!” to any of these questions, rush to the nearest computer and check out Smarthinking’s online tutoring resources. All currently enrolled Empire State College students have free access. Simply go to www.esc.edu/myesc and click on the green Learning Support tab at the top of the screen. Then, under “Get Tutoring and Help,” click on “Smarthinking Online Tutoring Service,” and follow the instructions to set up an account.* It’s easy!
Here are just a few of the different ways you can find help on Smarthinking:
Attend a Live Drop-In Session
“Drop in” for a live chat session with an experienced tutor and get instant help. Math tutors are available to help you (in areas like basic math skills, algebra, geometry, trigonometry and statistics) 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Writing and reading tutors are available on a drop in-basis Sunday through Thursday from 12 p.m. to 2 a.m. EST, as well as Friday and Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. EST. For other subjects (like accounting, economics, Spanish and biology), just consult the schedule.
Schedule a Live Tutoring Appointment
Have a busy schedule? Reserve a time to work with a tutor that is convenient for you. Tutors are available by appointment for statistics, calculus, accounting, Spanish, economics, biology, chemistry, physics, and anatomy and physiology courses. Tutors also can help with Microsoft programs, such as Windows, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access.
Visit the Online Writing Center
Submit a whole paper, a cover letter or even just a paragraph. A tutor will send prompt feedback on how to improve your writing. Tutors also are available to help with writing in Spanish and with ESL (English as a second language) concerns.
Ask an Offline Question
Submit a question about an academic subject area and get an answer within 24 hours!
The Director of Academic Support (DAS) at your Center is always available to help you should you have questions. Each student starts with 15 hours, but the DAS can add additional hours if you need more.
