I came upon a water spring
By Anne McCorkell, student, Center for Distance Learning

I came upon a water spring
Its running sounds alerted me
I tested the temperature with my finger
The refreshing taste caused me to linger
At first I was alone in the woods
Surrounded by leaves of orange, yellow, green
And then a doe joined me to quench its thirst
Away in the distance, her tail twitched
She continued to drink without a flinch
Her quiet beauty beckoned to me
To watch her drink from the water, knee deep
Eye to eye, we watched each other
