Collegewide Election Education Event Set for Oct. 2

The Student Affairs Committee is sponsoring a collegewide interactive forum for students, Vote 2012, Tuesday, Oct. 2, from 6 - 8 p.m. It will be presented as a video conference in three panel discussions/presentations by faculty and students across the state to educate students about issues related to the U.S. election process and to provide motivation for participation in the 2012 elections.
Participating faculty include Chris Grill (NEC), MaryNell Morgan (NEC), Mark Soderstrom (CNY) and Allyn VanDeusen (CNY). A Northeast Center student, Don Ellis, and dean of the Niagra Frontier Center, Nan DiBello, also will participate as panelists. Kate Colberg (NEC) will moderate the forum.
Topics to be covered include the role of political parties, the rise of third parties and obstacles to their success, the history of and current issues in suffrage, the media and its effect on voting behavior, and more. Audience members can send questions to the participants by emailing Vote.Info@esc.edu during the event.
