Empire State College students span the country and the world. Your influence as a group is substantial! Please take the time to register to vote today and use the power of that influence. Whether you are registering in New York State, or another state or territory of the United States, we can help you register to vote. Below, you will find useful links and facts for voter registration in New York State.

In addition, the Student Affairs Committee is sponsoring a collegewide election education event for students, ‘Vote! Or Let Others Decide,’ Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012 from 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. More information to come!

Nov. 6, 2012 General Election Deadlines:
The national board of elections website has the rules which vary from state to state concerning cutoff dates for registration and address changes.

New York Deadlines:
MAIL REGISTRATION (N.Y. Election Law Section 5-210(3))
Applications must be postmarked no later than Oct. 12, 2012 and received by a board of elections no later than Oct. 17, 2012 to be eligible to vote in the General Election.

IN PERSON REGISTRATION (N.Y. Election Law Sections 5-210, 5-211, 5-212)
You may register at your local board of elections or any state agency participating in the National Voter Registration Act, on any business day throughout the year but, to be eligible to vote in the November General Election, your application must be received no later than Oct. 12, 2012 except, if you have been honorably discharged from the military or have become a naturalized citizen since Oct. 12, 2012, you may register in person at the board of elections up until Oct. 26, 2012.

CHANGE OF ADDRESS (N.Y. Election Law Section 5-208(3))
Notices of change of address from registered voters received by Oct. 17, 2012 by a county board of elections must be processed and entered in the records in time for the General Election.

Paper ballots will be available this fall at each center and unit. If you need a paper ballot, please email Kelly Williams at Kelly.williams@esc.edu.
