Next Steps for New Graduates

As the end of the 2012 school year approaches, graduates everywhere are deciding what their next steps will be. Whether you have already chosen a career path or are still deciding, it can be worth your while to walk through a graduate and professional fair. Throughout the remainder of this year, there are several events located in the New York area. In addition, Empire State College’s Alumni Career Site can also be a great way to find jobs and connect with other professionals.
Upcoming Graduate Fairs:
The New York Career Idealist Fair will take place Sept. 13, 2012 from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m., located at the 125 West 18th Street, Metropolitan Pavilion, 1st Floor, New York, New York, 10011. This fair is hosted by the New York University Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service. The fair presents a vast amount of information regarding a variety of graduate programs that are offered at over 60 universities locally, as well as abroad. Admission counselors are available at the fair to discuss program requirements, application deadlines and financial aid. SUNY Plattsburg is hosting a graduate and professional fair Sept. 12, 2012, from 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., located in Plattsburg, N.Y. They are anticipating over 50 colleges and universities to attend this event. A broad range of graduate programs will be featured as well. Buffalo State College will hold a graduate fair Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, from 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. The event will take place at the Buffalo Library 210. For more information and register online please visit, http://220.127.116.11/cdc//grad_school_fair/inputform1.asp.
Binghamton University plans to host a graduate school fair Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, from 11 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. The event will be held in the Mandela Room/Old Union Hall, University Union.

The Albany Career Fair will take place Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., located at the Albany Marriott, 189 Wolf Road, Albany, N.Y.
Ellis Hospital will hold a Job Fair on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m., located at the Holiday Inn Express, 400 Old Loudon Road, Latham, N.Y.

Empire State College: Alumni Career Site:
If you’re looking for a job and/or wish to connect with other professionals, consider joining the Alumni Career Services Page. The Alumni Career site is a great way to network and is available to all Empire State College students, alumni and faculty. On this site, there are several links that offer events, resume support, career mentors, social networking, career counseling, as well as discounts for tutoring and other forms of test prep for the GRE, GMAT, LSAT, MCAT and DAT exams.
