ANGEL Upgrade to Version 8.0 Scheduled for August 2-4; Students and Instructors in 15-week Summer Courses Affected
The Office of Integrated Technologies (OIT) has begun planning for upgrading the college's current ANGEL 7.4 site to ANGEL 8.0. This is required because ANGEL 7.4 will no longer be supported by the vendor after October 2012. This will be the last ANGEL upgrade in anticipation of the college's transition to Moodle/Mahara in September 2013.
The upgrade has been scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 2. As with past upgrades, OIT proposes to take ANGEL offline for two and a half days starting at 7 a.m. DST and restoring access no later than noon DST Saturday Aug. 4.
This time period was selected because it follows the close of the Summer 2012 eight-week term (SU1), and will not interfere with instructor submission of learning outcomes.
Instructors teaching summer courses for the 15-week Summer 2012 (SU2) term will need to notify their students that they will be unable to log into their ANGEL courses during the period of the upgrade. Beginning in mid-June, reminder notices will be sent to instructors and students through ANGEL.
Additional notifications will be communicated to students through MyESC and to the rest of the college through ESCNet and Exchange.
Most of the changes to the system will be transparent to users; there will be no changes in the user interface. However, two features are included in this new version: ANGEL 8.0 will support desktop versions of Google Chrome and Apple's Safari browsers; and discussion forum grading rubrics will be introduced.
