Library Launches New Copyright Information Website
By Sarah Morehouse, information resources coordinator, Academic Technologies
April 18, 2012
The library's new copyright information website provides clear explanations of fair use, educational use, the DMCA, public domain, the creative Commons, getting a license to use copyrighted materials and managing the copyright of personal works. The information is available as both a basic overview and a more in-depth analysis. The site features a FAQ page, podcasts, screencast demonstrations and links to useful tools to help make informed copyright decisions.
Members of the community involved in teaching and learning constantly use and create a wide variety of materials that are protected under U.S. copyright law. Because works are copyrighted as soon as they are created, it is important that everyone within SUNY Empire State College is familiar with basic copyright concepts connected with ownership, management and fair use of protected works.
