SUNY Empire State College Sustainability Highlighted in United Nations Conference in Rio de Janeiro
(SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – June 20, 2012) SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher highlighted Empire State College’s leadership in the higher education movement as part of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development – Rio +20, held in Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil.
“SUNY is proud to be a leader in the global movement to adopt sustainability principles across our business operations and curriculum, and we are committed to remaining at the forefront of this movement,” said Zimpher.
“Global leadership in sustainability is another manifestation of the Power of SUNY and I commend Chancellor Zimpher for her work on this issue,” said college President Alan R. Davis. “At the state level, the college is committed to supporting sustainability efforts in the 35 communities in which we reside and we will continue to offer at least three community-education programs each year in three different communities in New York state.”
The chancellor, Davis and eight other SUNY college presidents have signed the Rio +20 sustainability declaration.
