Manhattan and Brooklyn Offices of SUNY Empire State College to Open Tuesday, Nov. 6
No Classes Monday Night at 325 Hudson St. Staten Island Office Suspends Operations through Nov. 10
(SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Nov. 5, 2012) SUNY Empire State College offices at 325 Hudson St. in Manhattan and 177 Livingston St. in Brooklyn will be open Tuesday, Nov. 6 beginning at 10 a.m.
Temporary disruptions to telephones and Internet access are possible in the coming days at Hudson and Livingston streets. The college will continue to support and provide services to students so that they can move forward with their education.
“As New York City continues to deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, my thoughts are with all students, faculty and staff who persevered through the storm,” said Cynthia Ward, dean of the college’s Metropolitan Regional office. “My deepest sympathies to those who suffered loss in the coastal neighborhoods that were hardest hit, especially our neighbors in Staten Island and south Brooklyn. We will be making every effort to support students to continue their studies. Our commitment to personalized student services is unwavering. Thanks to the excellent work of the college's faculty and staff, we have maintained contact with students and will continue to focus on teaching and learning.”
Operations at the college’s office at 500 Seaview Ave. on Staten Island have been suspended through Saturday, Nov. 10, due to damage to the building. The college is working on alternate arrangements for those students and faculty.
“I am proud of our students, faculty and staff for their determination, courage and understanding in the wake of the storm,” said Michael Merrill, dean of the college’s Harry Van Arsdale Jr. Center for Labor Studies, 325 Hudson St., Manhattan. “We are working with instructors to support their efforts to make alternative arrangements to ensure that their students can complete their studies in a manner consistent with the present circumstances."
Classes for Monday night at the labor center have been cancelled and there are no classes scheduled for Tuesday because of the election.
