Veterans Read Recollections of War at NYS Military Museum

(SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Oct. 21, 2010) – “Veterans Recollections,” readings from their original work by three SUNY Empire State College students who also are veterans who have written about their experiences in the military service, is set for Wednesday, Oct. 27, 6:30-8:30 p.m., at the New York State Military Museum, 61 Lake Avenue, Saratoga Springs.

The event is in honor of Veterans Day, Thursday, Nov. 11. Readers are:

  • Ryan Smithson, author of “Ghosts of War,” a compelling memoir of his experience in the military that allows readers to march alongside him on his one-year stint in the Middle East, including Iraq,
  • Andrew Davis, director of Veterans Services for Saratoga County, New York. Davis was honorably discharged after serving six years in the United States Army as a Non-Commissioned Officer. He is a two-war veteran, having served three combined tours in both Afghanistan and Iraq with the U.S. Army’s 75th Ranger Regiment, and
  • Ed Herbert is a SUNY Empire State College student and a founding member of the college’s Student Veterans and Military Club.

Video interviews will be conducted of veterans present at the event to be included in a documentary the college will produce and submit to the Veterans History Project at the Library of Congress.

On Oct. 27, the readings will be streamed live at: http://pointers.audiovideoweb.com/asxfileslive/va92winlive2341.asx.

The event is free and open to the public, but reservations are requested at 518-587-2100, ext. 2949 or Susan.Mcfadden@esc.edu.
