SUNY Empire State College Named Military-Friendly School

(SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – August 16, 2010) – SUNY Empire State College has been named to the 2011 list of military-friendly schools. According to G.I. Jobs, publisher of the list, the college is among the top 15 percent of the nation’s institutions of higher education doing the most to embrace America’s veterans as students.

Criteria for making the military-friendly schools list include efforts to recruit and retain military and veteran students, results in recruiting military and veteran students and academic accreditations.

“We make every effort at SUNY Empire State College to provide services that ease our veterans’ and service members’ transition to the education environment,” said Linda Frank, director of the college’s Office of Veteran and Military Education. “We are very pleased that G.I. Jobs has recognized our efforts, our commitment and our services as valuable components of our veterans’ and service members’ successful educational experience.”

The college’s Office of Veteran and Military Education focuses on providing veterans and active members of America’s armed forces with an open pathway to improving their lives by earning an associate’s or bachelor’s degree anytime, anywhere, guided by faculty mentors from orientation through graduation.

Also a benefit to service members and veterans, since its founding in 1971, the college has offered credit for college-level learning gained through military training, standard exams and other life experience.
