(SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – August 9, 2010) SUNY Empire State College’s School for Graduate Studies will now offer four new online graduate certificates in the following disciplines: Human Resource Management, Health Care Management, Project Management and Nonprofit Management.
A doctor or other health care administrator, a human resources manager or a director of a nonprofit organization are some of the professionals who would benefit from the new certificates. There is also a more general certificate in project management that can apply across a variety of professional fields.
“Working adults short on time and in need of a short, focused program can now earn an online certificate from SUNY Empire State College at a time that best suits their schedule,” said Robert Clougherty, dean of the School for Graduate Studies. “Graduate certificates are ideal for the busy professional looking for career re-tooling in a rapidly changing work environment, for professional development or just for personal interest.”
Graduate Certificate in Health Care Management (12 credits) The Graduate Certificate in Health Care Management provides health care professionals, as well as managers seeking to transition into the health care industry, with critical tools to identify, anticipate, analyze, and solve the complex problems currently facing managers in health care organizations.
Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management (12 credits) This certificate program provides tools for the development of strategic planning, leadership and management skills for nonprofit professionals. Stimulated by rapid change and complexity, this certificate provides professional in the nonprofit sector with the education needed to meet increasing demands for accountability, growing financial constraints and an aging population of workers.
Graduate Certificate in Project Management (12 credits) The curriculum is designed for business leaders, professionals and administrators who are involved in the management of complex projects or who wish to be prepared for managing projects across organizational and functional lines. The certificate focuses on: project integration in a company’s business model, technical, socio-cultural and leadership dimensions of project management’ strategies and tactics within the framework of portfolio management, project management offices and virtual project management.
Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management (12 credits) The college’s M.B.A. program is one of only two in New York state, and 14 nationwide, that offer the Human Resource Management concentration. The certificate program has also been recognized by the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) as a program that aligns with SHRM’s recommended guidelines for HR degree programs. The certificate provides students with a strong foundation to advance within the evolving HR profession, with course work in developing internal talent, integrating staffing activities with diversity and equal employment opportunity initiatives, total rewards systems, compensation structure and systems, benefit programs and compensation and benefits legislation.
The 12-credit graduate certificates may be used as a stepping-stone into the college’s Master of Business Administration program, provided students meet other admission requirements. All of the graduate programs are delivered online.
