Important Information for New Graduate Students

Activate Your College Login

Please activate your college login right away, so that you have access to important systems/services. You do this by going to MyESC and clicking "Activate My Login" just above the Announcements box. 


The orientation provides important information about registration, books, etc.

 Please follow these three easy steps to the online orientation:

  1. Please visit and enter your college login and password.
  2. Look for the blue menu bar and position your cursor on "My Courses" to find "New Graduate Student Orientation" and click this link.
  3. Begin the orientation with "Student Moodle Tutorial."

M.A. Liberal Studies (MALS) In-person Orientation

In addition to the general School for Graduate Studies online orientation, MALS has other orientation sessions. You can access the MALS orientation and assignment information at Choosing and Preparing for Your MALS Courses.

Updated as of Aug. 14, 2014: There is no pre-orientation assignment. During the online M.A. in liberal studies orientation, which opens on Aug. 18, you will write and respond to the writing of other students.


Register online for the fall term from 9 a.m. on June 3 through 5 p.m. on Aug. 29 via the Register tab on MyESC. Late registration is available from 9 a.m. on Sept. 2 through 5 p.m. on Sept. 5 with a $30 late fee.


The fall residency will be held Oct. 9-11 at the Desmond Hotel and Conference Center in Albany, N.Y. Residency attendance is required for students enrolled in a residency-based course in the M.A. in labor, liberal studies and social programs and the MBA in management program. Please review the Graduate Residency Information page for complete details including session schedules.

Term Start Date

The term will begin on Sept. 8, but most of the courses will open one week prior to the start of the term. The complete term calendar is available at Graduate Calendars.
