Ourselves: Then and Now is a unique anthology of personal essays written by Academy for Lifelong Learning (A.L.L.) members, "ordinary" men and women in their 60s and 70s. The 12 writers examine differences between their early feelings and their current views of themselves and the people, places and events which are important to them.
This book began as an A.L.L. writing study group in autobiography. The group leader, Dr. Marianne Gilbert Finnegan, encouraged the participants to think about the meaning of events, people and places in their past and how they view them today. What emerged from these exercises are some remarkable and candid essays showing varying degrees of reflection and insight - the best of which are in this book.
The book was published during another A.L.L. study group From Manuscript to Publication, in which the participants learned the details and challenges involved in getting a book into print.
