Founded in 1992, the Academy for Lifelong Learning at Saratoga Springs (A.L.L.) is a nonprofit member-driven organization with over 350 mature learners who share a love of participatory learning. It is an independent entity, sponsored by SUNY Empire State College and affiliated with the Road Scholar Institute Network. It is designed to stimulate the mind and energize the body in classroom and social settings.
Fall classes run from mid-September to mid-November
Spring classes run from mid-April to mid-June
Special Interest Groups and special events are run throughout the year.
Annual Membership: $60.00
Membership goes from July 1 to June 30.
You are welcome to join at any time during the year.
(Since membership is annual, members joining in the fall at $60 will not pay membership dues again in the spring. Eight-week Study Group Leaders receive a free annual membership worth $60.)

The Academy’s membership committee sponsors Special Interest Groups (SIGs), which are organized by our members. Bridge, book discussion, theater, classical music, gardening, cross-country skiing, snow shoeing and walking groups are examples. We will provide further details at the term kick-off luncheons.
Held the week prior to the start of classes
Come to meet study group/class leaders, new friends, renew friendships from past years and learn more about the Academy’s programs.
$50 per 8-week class for each of the first 2 classes each term. A member joining and taking (2) 8 week classes would pay $160. ($60 annual membership + $50 1st class + $50 2nd class)
$25 per 4-week class*. A member joining and taking a 4 week class and an 8 week class would pay $135 ($60 annual membership + $50 1st class + $25 4-week class)
*(A class of 5 or more weeks is considered a $50 class at the fee schedule as written here)
$25 per class for each additional class over two based on availability. A member joining and taking (2) 8-week classes and 1 additional class would pay $185 ($60 annual membership + $50 1st class + $50 2nd class + $25 third class)
Applications for classes will be accepted by mail in mid-July and mid-January.
Registration is on a first come, first served basis. See the term brochures for first day of registration. After several weeks of registration, the open classes will be announced and registration for these classes will take place on a first come, first served basis by e-mail, mail or in-person. This will require a second payment for these additional classes.
To encourage good discussion, study group sizes can be limited. Please indicate your choices for courses in order of preference and also list one alternate choice. If a study group is filled, your alternate choice will be honored. Wait lists will be established for filled study groups in case space becomes available before the fall term begins. Open classes will be announced in August with registration on a first come, first served basis.

If you have to drop a class, a refund less $25 processing fee will be granted up to the start of classes. No refund requests will be honored after the start of classes. If A.L.L. cancels a study group, you’re welcome to apply for another open class. Refunds for canceled classes will be given without penalty if that is your choice.
