Acting Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs

photo of Deborah Amory‌In her tenure as Acting Provost Deborah Amory has been focusing on the initiatives set forth in the college’s first academic plan, for which she led a collegewide development team during her tenure as vice provost.

Prior to her role as acting provost, Amory was vice provost, overseeing half of the college’s regional centers, serving more than 5,000 students throughout upstate New York,  as well as 75 full-time faculty and hundreds of part-time faculty and support staff.

In addition, she supervised three college offices focusing on key partnerships, including those with community colleges, corporate and community partnerships and the college's Office of Veterans and Military Education, serving approximately 2,000 military and veteran students and their families across New York state and through the college's offices at Fort Drum.

Previously, she worked at the State University of New York at Purchase where she was first hired as an assistant professor and was promoted to academic and leadership roles of increasing responsibility and complexity, ultimately serving both as faculty presiding officer and director of instructional technology.

Amory has an extensive scholarly record in cultural anthropology, is an internationally recognized expert on gender and sexuality in East Africa, and the recipient of several awards for her scholarship, teaching and service.
