Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)
SAP Expectations for Undergraduate Students
- You must earn enough credits in each enrollment to maintain SAP.
- You need to maintain SAP to remain an Empire State College student
- You need to maintain SAP to remain eligible for federal and New York state financial aid.
The college calculates SAP at the end of each enrollment term to determine enrollment eligibility.
The SAP slide rule is a handy tool for measuring your progress against the minimum standard. You need your cumulative terms of enrollment and your total credits earned in those enrollments to determine your progress situation.
To calculate your progress rate, first determine the full-time equivalent (FTE) value for each term using the following table and then add those values together.
|Number of credits per term||FTE value|
|12 or more||1.00|
Enrollment #1: Two 4 credit studies, 8 credits total = 0.50 FTE
Enrollment #2: Three 4-credit studies, 12 credits total =1.00 FTE
Cumulative total FTE enrollments = 1.50
Look on the slide rule at the bottom row labeled FTE, slide down to 1.5 and look at the box just above it in the row labeled credits needed. A student must have earned at least 8 credits in the above two enrollments to be making SAP.
